History Of The Work Environment

The history of the work place is very important in developing and implementing a new pay method. This is because there is a big difference between a new workplace and what the employer can do from scratch compared with an employer who has to work with an existing work force that already has agreements in place on how they will get paid.

In the latter, a strategy needs to be developed based on the following:

• The potential for industrial action • The nature of the work • Use of technology and potential up-skilling of the workforce • Redundancy and restructuring • Outsourcing and contracting out • How employees stand in regard to change

Industry Trends

By looking at the industry and their competitors, employers can get a very good understanding of how employees are paid. But this does not mean that employers should just follow what other employers are doing. Being innovative and trying different payment methods can enhance the performance of employees and enhance the relationship between employees and the employer.
