HR Practice For Payroll Practitioners

HR Practice for Payroll Practitioners

To become more skilful at asking just the right questions, try developing a repertoire of commonly asked questions that feel comfortable for you. For example: • What do you want to have happen? (This is good for establishing the agenda.) • What more can you say about that? • What have you already tried? • What are the reasons this didn’t work as well as you had hoped? • How do you feel about this? • What is your point of view? • What are your other choices? • What has worked for you in the past? • What do you mean? • Tell me more about…? • How did this happen…? • How are others affected…? • Who else is involved…? • When did it happen? • Who will be responsible? • What is the most important thing to do here? • What needs to happen in order for you to …? • Talk me through … In general it is helpful to start a conversation using open questions, uncover specifics using probing questions, and reach and confirm agreement using closed questions.
