HR Practice for Payroll Practitioners

important to plan in advance and clearly indicate what is required and when.

Give them an overview of the whole induction process the new employee is going through and what stage the employee will be at when they give their own presentation or training session.

Other points to cover:

➢ The topics they will be required to cover ➢ The time allocated for each topic ➢ Any outcomes that need to be completed (assessment activities) ➢ The type of group or individual involved in the induction programme ➢ Location of the presentation/training ➢ Resources that will be provided from the induction programme ➢ Resources they may want to bring to the presentation/training ➢ Copies of session plans and course material ➢ Plenty of time to get up to speed with the material provided ➢ Opportunities for further support (if needed) It is important to ensure that staff involved in the induction of new employees have the skills to effectively train and present the material they have been assigned to deliver. The first-time trainer may require training in presentation skills and further support could be needed for the first couple of times before they gain the experience to do it on their own. Always make sure, if the presenter/trainer is going to provide their own material for their part in the induction, that it is checked well beforehand to ensure it meets the requirements of the session and the induction programme. If the material does not meet the requirements explain to them why and offer support. The important thing is to ensure that the involvement of the presenter/trainer is worthwhile to the new employee. A poor presentation or training session can have a negative impact on the induction programme overall so it is important to ensure quality throughout.
